The address is named in honor of Mrs Anne McKay, who was a role model to women in the region during the early to mid-1900s. After setting up one of the first restaurants in Manjimup, in 1937, Mrs McKay initiated the local branch of the 'Country Women's Association' which led to her helping to form another 15 branches in the South West as well as establishing 'Girl Guides' in Manjimup. In 1948, Mrs McKay was the first woman elected to Local Government in Western Australia, becoming a councillor for the Manjimup Shire Council, then the Manjimup Road Board.
Shire President Wade DeCampo explained how the original intention behind the event was to provide local women of all ages the opportunity to network with one another and hear from an inspirational guest speaker, saying "the target audience is certainly not limited to women, however the aim is to feature a woman who has made a difference in the way that Anne McKay did in her day."
