Shire trainee wins industry award
Announced at the President's Gala Dinner in February, Brodie was recognised as operating at a much higher level than a certificate II and commended for his enthusiastic approach to his work.
Brodie, pictured left, commenced working with the Shire as a school-based Civil Works trainee as part of a pilot program developed in partnership with Rio Tinto.
Shire President Wade DeCampo the partnership enabled Rio Tinto to give back to the community, and in conjunction with the Shire, provide an opportunity for local students to gain a qualification and have career prospects available to them in the future.
"Brodie is a great example of how partnerships such as this are so beneficial for the community and for industry," said Cr DeCampo.
The arrangement with Rio Tinto concluded in October 2015, however Brodie has continued working for the Shire on a casual basis.
Brodie conducted his traineeship through Civil Train. His assessments were always completed on time and to a high standard and his supervisors describe Brodie as someone who picks up new concepts very quickly and successfully. He remains a valuable member of the Shire of Manjimup Works Team, and his enthusiastic and positive approach to work is appreciated and valued.
"It's a win-win. Brodie came away with his Certificate II and the Shire has gained a reliable and hard-working employee," Cr DeCampo said. "We commend Brodie on his achievements and know that by continuing to apply himself, the way he has throughout his traineeship, he's on the path to a very successful career."
