Successful events giving the region national exposure
MEDIA RELEASE - Successful events giving the region national exposure
June 2015
A busy calendar of events has seen the Southern Forests region gain exposure, on a national level, for a range of the unique and sought-after activities and attributes on offer in the Shire of Manjimup. At the conclusion of the most successful Truffle Kerfuffle weekend yet, Shire President Wade DeCampo offers his congratulations and thanks to the organisers of all of the events which have filled the region's calendar over the transition from autumn to winter.
"Our goal has been to occupy these weekends with things to do; events to bring people from all walks of life to the region and encourage the 'winter escape' type of getaway. With all that is on offer, we're hoping people are enticed to come back for more," said Cr DeCampo.
"It doesn't matter how big or small the event is, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make it a success and planning for next year's event often commences before this year's has even taken place," said Cr DeCampo.
Some of the events that have been held in the Southern Forests throughout May and June include the 2Oceans mountain bike race, Killarnee Targa Rally, Manjimup Motocross, Pemberton Unearthed Festival, Truffle Kerfuffle and the Nullarbor Mountain Boys concert organised by the Warren Arts Council.
"These events are often made feasible through grants, but more often than not, they remain possible through local support and contribution," added Cr DeCampo. "We're the culinary capital and fresh food bowl, adventure playground and the place to see action-packed motorsports. There is something on offer for all tastes and it's really promising to see the dedication and backing all of these events are receiving both locally, state-wide and even nationally."
"It is really encouraging to see events like the Truffle Kerfuffle, which started in 2011, elevate to the heights and calibre that were on display at the weekend. It is an absolute credit to all involved and I look forward to seeing what is new in 2016."
Popular Manjimup event the Cherry Harmony Festival is on again in December, which is another favourite that continues to bring people to the region to showcase Manjimup's widespread local delicacy, the Cherry. For more information visit http://www.cherryfestival.com.au/.
