The Shire of Manjimup, in collaboration with East Manjimup Primary School, have entered the 2022 #shoWcAse in PIXELS in the Upper Primary School category. The annual exhibition of artwork is displayed on the iconic 45m high digital tower in the heart of Yagan Square in Perth, with this year’s theme being “Embracing Change”.
Depicting the rich diversity of the South Western Forests, our artwork depicts the flora and fauna unique to the area. A grey kangaroo, emu, quoll, fairy wren, numbat, motorbike frog, tiger snake, ring tailed possum, and red-tailed cockatoo have been chosen to represent the variety of animals that reside in our ancient karri and marri forests. We acknowledge and embrace changes in environment from different perspectives. In response, the colour palette chosen is symbolic of transitions between the Noongar seasons where we observe movement and colour changes within the landscape.
Acrylic paint was used on a wooden canvas, with the final entry being digitised. Students from Years 4 to 6 from East Manjimup Primary School participated in all aspects of the artwork production including subject matter, colour palette, canvas priming, transferring the imagery, and painting.
It has been wonderful to see the students work together to create such a vibrant and exciting celebration of our Shire and the wonderful nature that surrounds us. Check out the journey of the project over the last few months…
All entries are being displayed on the digital tower in Yagan Square at 12pm each day from 19 September to 9 October. Timings are subject to change.
