Sustainability Focus of New Committee
At the meeting of 9 February 2023 Council approved the establishment of a Sustainability Advisory Committee. The soon to be established committee will provide advice to Council regarding strategic policy direction with the aim of promoting sustainability outcomes that are environmentally responsible, socially and culturally sound, and economically viable.
Shire President Paul Omodei advised “We will soon be calling for community representatives for the committee, which will be made up of Council representatives, staff members and members of the Warren Catchment Council and Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions”.
Once established, it is expected that the committee may provide advice to Council on the following topics:
- Climate change;
- Biodiversity;
- Built environment;
- Land and waterway degradation;
- Water quality and conservation;
- Waste management;
- Community engagement and information sharing on sustainable practices; and
- Economic transition.
“Council will be calling for five community members and two youth members to join the committee, whose functions will include identification of opportunities for activation of sustainability practices; liaison with relevant groups or services; communication with the local community and advice, recommendations and trends to Council that will improve sustainability in the Shire for the benefit of the broader community” he added.
If you are interested in nominating for the committee, you are asked to read the full Terms of Reference for the committee before submitting your interest via email to info@manjimup.wa.gov.au by 5pm Friday 26 May 2023.
