Windy Harbour Risk Treatment Workshop

The Shire of Manjimup intends holding a workshop to involve the community in setting potential risk treatment options for the Windy Harbour Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP).

Windy Harbour has been identified as a coastal erosion hotspot by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage. It is under pressure from challenges including the impacts of climate change, coastal hazards such as erosion and inundation, population growth and competing land uses.

A Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaption Plan will create a coastal management framework for the next 25 years. It will assess risks to guide recommendations for adaptation that are in line with State Planning Policies.

Shire President, Donnelle Buegge stated, “this project is funded by the Western Australian Planning Commission through the Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program. Consultation with the local community and Windy Harbour stakeholders is an important part of the process to develop the Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaption Plan and ensure that it meets the needs of the local community”.

The Shire is asking the public to assist in the development of the plan by participating in a community workshop.

The workshop will be an opportunity for the local community and stakeholders to provide input and local knowledge that can assist in developing the best CHRMAP possible. The community helped establish the social, environmental, infrastructure and economic values and assets. These have been assessed for vulnerability in the coastal area. This workshop will involve the community in choosing the best risk treatment options for the values and assets identified to be at risk.

The workshop will be held in the JC Rose Room at the Shire Administration Building, Manjimup on Wednesday 21 June 2024, starting at 5pm, with catering provided.
