MEDIA RELEASE - Aussie spirit alive in Pemberton - 2015
January 2015
Australia Day celebrations were in full swing yesterday at the Pemberton Pool, thanks to the Shire of Manjimup, Pemberton Visitor Centre and the Pemberton Community Resource Centre.
The Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Shire of Manjimup, recognised the contribution made by individuals and groups to each of our communities.
"Everyone at some stage has been touched by the amazing generosity or support of an individual or community group, and the Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards are the perfect opportunity for the community to express a sincere thank you. All nominees are formally acknowledged during the ceremony, which finishes up with a presentation to the winners of each category," explained Shire President Wade DeCampo.
Winners in each of the three categories were presented by Cr Wade DeCampo and the Hon Nigel Hallett MLC, and were as follows:
Winner of the Premiers Australia Day Active Citizenship Award in the Community Group or Event category Home and Community Care Volunteers Manjimup. These volunteers are joyful and selfless in their delivery of services and support.
Winner of the Premiers Australia Day Active Citizenship Award in the Person under 25 years category Kate Milentis. Kate's active involvement in playing, umpiring and coaching Netball makes her a positive role model for girls.
Winner of the Universal Premier's Australia Day Active Citizen Award Robert Trevorrow. Robert shows commitment and dedication towards four different volunteer organisations over two different communities.
At the conclusion of the awards presentation, guest speakers Joanna Box and Lisa Hannaford shared their experiences on getting the arts recognised and celebrated in local communities.
