Brockman Street Manjimup Works Update
The following is an outline of likely works to be undertaken over the week of Saturday 13 April to Thursday 18 April 2019
Replacement of Water Main
A "Start Up" meeting referred to in the last update occurred on Wednesday as planned. Present at the meeting were representatives from the Water Corporation, the Shires Civil Engineering Consultant and Contractors and Brian Robinson Director Development and Regulation.
At that meeting the following time frames were agreed to for works associated with the installation of the new service main:
Saturday 13 April
The Shire's contractor TRACC civil will be excavating the new trench between Guadagnino Lane and Rose Street. Time permitting, works to install the main pipework will also be completed.
In order to complete this work, Brockman Street will be closed between Guadagnino Lane and Rose Street from 6am to 6pm. Once safety barricades have been adjusted, the road will be opened until Sunday morning.
Sunday 14 April
TRACC civil will continue installation of the new pipework and associated fixtures, with the view to completing a pressure test and sterilisation of the new pipework. A representative from the Water Corporation will be on-site on Sunday afternoon to ensure that the new infrastructure and its installation comply with their requirements.
The new trench will be backfilled during the work period on Sunday, allowing the safety fencing to be returned to its current position.
As works on the Sunday will involve the installation of new valves adjacent to the Water Corporation in Guadagnino Lane, it will be necessary for the whole of Brockman Street to be closed on Sunday from 6am to 6pm at the latest.
Wednesday 17 April
On Wednesday the new water main will be connected to the Water Corporation system and made 'live'. To complete the connections at both Rose Street and Guadagnino Lane and blank off the existing pipeline near Guadagnino Lane, the Water Corporation will be required to shut off water flowing into the current main, resulting in some disruptions to the water service.
It is planned that the water will be shut off at 9am for a maximum of 5 hours. To minimise the disruption the Shire has authorised TRACC Civil to employ the services of a second team, allowing both connections to be undertaken simultaneously over a period of 2 hours. An additional hour or two will be required to blank of the existing water pipe. By taking this approach, it is hoped that the water service will be restored to all premises within 3 to 4 hours. The balance of the new infrastructure will then be backfilled.
In order to complete the above works, it is anticipated that a full closure of Brockman Street between Giblett Street and Rose Street will be required between 8am and 2pm. If at all possible, the full closure will be reduced, opening the section of Brockman from Giblett Street to Guadagnino Lane as soon as possible.
Remaining Roof Footings
Once relocation of the water main is completed, works to finalise the installation of the remaining footings will be programed. Further advice regarding this work will be provided as soon as possible.
Installation of Roof Frame(s)
Following the installation of the new footings, and an allowance of seven days for the new concrete footings to cure, completion of the roof frame will be possible.
Roof Material
The Tender for supply of the preferred roofing material closes next week, with an agenda item to be prepared for the Shire meeting to be held on 2 of May, recommending the acceptance of the quote, which represents best value for the Shire.
