Late last year the Australian Government announced the Australian Defence Veterans' Covenant (the Covenant). The purpose of the Covenant is for the Australian community to recognise the service and sacrifice of the men and women who commit to defend the nation, and pledge their commitment to support veterans and their families. The Covenant commits to better connect veterans and their families post-service to their local community and is asking businesses to get behind our veterans with the Australian Government.
The Shire of Manjimup is joining with the Australian Government in asking for support for the veteran community, by inviting local businesses to participate in a new and important initiative through providing a specific offer for Veteran Card holders. This could be in the form of a percentage discount on retail goods and services either in-store or online, however any support is appreciated and the benefit to be offered is entirely at the business's discretion. We particularly encourage small to medium businesses to participate and accept the Veteran Card on sight. The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) has already partnered with the Australian Partners of Defence (APOD) to provide Veteran Card holders with access to over 500 businesses from around the country and this number continues to grow on a daily basis. Businesses can directly register their specific offers for Veteran Card holders at https://apod.com.au/about/business-partners. Registration is free and there is no ongoing cost to businesses.
