The Shire have received funding to deliver two more workshops as part of the Collection Management Workshop series.
Since mid-2017 the Shire of Manjimup have been delivering a series of workshops focused on museum collections management. Since then three workshops have been delivered, free of charge to participants, in partnership with WA Museum, the Australian Museums and Galleries Association and the Manjimup Historical Society. Previous workshops were on Object Handling, Preventative Conservation and Metals Conservation. These workshops attracted many attendees from local groups such as the Northcliffe Pioneer Museum and regional museum groups such as the Collie Coalfields museum.
The Shire were successful in receiving funding from National Library of Australia through the Community Heritage Grant program to provide two more workshops to the series. The workshops are to be held across May and June 2019.
The first workshop in the last weekend of May will be on the conservation of functional objects run by David Hallam, a senior conservator and Director at R.M.Tait and Associates. In the workshop participants will learn how to assess and treat functional objects.
The second workshop on June 29 will be with Vanessa Wiggin, conservator and Director of Museumly. Vanessa, who has already held a workshop in the series on Preventative Conservation and will be providing opportunity for an open day to discuss conservation projects and any issues incurred along the way.
The series is being delivered by the Shire to encourage local volunteer skills development in collection management and encourage volunteers to contribute to the former World of Energy collection - due for exhibition later this year in the new Manjimup Heritage Park museum.
The two workshops are free and will be held in the Manjimup Heritage Park. The Shire encourages interested individuals to contact Shammara Markotis on 9771 7713 for further details or to book your attendance.
