MEDIA RELEASE - Facts v Fiction - Meth and Other Drugs Community Seminar in Manjimup
The Shire of Manjimup, in collaboration with St John of God South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service, are hosting a free community seminar titled 'Facts v Fiction: Methamphetamine and Other Drugs'.The seminar will take place from 6pm - 8pm on Thursday, 11 August 2016 at the Manjimup Town Hall.
Shire President Wade DeCampo explained that the seminar aims to debunk the myths that commonly surround drug use and open people's eyes to the realities of the effects of drug use; on individuals, friends or family and the community as a whole.
"Concerned friends, family and community members who want to learn more about the signs, trends and effects of drug use should definitely attend. You'll get the facts and have the opportunity to ask the tough questions from the professionals," said Cr DeCampo.
South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service Manager Jonathon Farr said, "Methamphetamine related harm is a significant problem for those affected by its use and those close to them. The harm is caused from people using a more potent crystal form known as ice and using more frequently".
The seminar will also address the use and effects of other drugs such as alcohol and cannabis.
This initiative is taken from the Southern Forests Alcohol and Other Drug 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, which was recently adopted by Council.
Light refreshments will be provided so RSVPs are essential. Please call 9771 7777 to RSVP by Tuesday 9th August 2016.
