Wellness and Respite Community Centre
MEDIA RELEASE - Federal funding means full completion of the Wellness and Respite Community Centre
October 2016
Rick Wilson MP, Federal Member for O'Connor, visited Manjimup on Friday, 7 October to announce $1.61 million of funding from the 'National Stronger Regions Fund' (NSRF) for the Wellness and Respite Community Centre in Manjimup. This funding complements funding already received for this project through HACC, Lotterywest and the Royalties for Regions Regional Grants Scheme, and means that the proposed building which will feature office space, the HACC day centre, a dementia centre, a respite wing and a multi-purpose room, can be completed in its entirety.
Shire President Wade DeCampo expressed great eagerness for the project to commence as soon as possible, explaining how this type facility, once built, will provide ongoing support for the ageing members of the community, assisting people to age in place. "We've been putting the wheels in motion for many years now for projects such as this which will enable people to remain independent and in their own home, for as long as possible as they age," said Cr DeCampo. "It will also provide the much needed support and relief for family members and carers, because their wellbeing is also of utmost importance."
"Ultimately, we want to keep the family unit together - from the early years, to school leavers, the middle-ages and seniors - there needs to be services and opportunities for this to become a reality. In gaining both State and Federal financial support for a project such as this, along with the additional funding the Shire has received over the last few years that will drive economic and population growth, we're definitely heading in the right direction," concluded Cr DeCampo.
"I'd also like to congratulate the Community Services and Home and Community Care teams for their ongoing dedication and enthusiasm in this project," said Cr DeCampo. "Securing this funding is a testament to their perseverance."
