Aluminium foil is a valuable recyclable commodity which many people - particularly children - will have in abundance at Easter.
"Foil is highly recyclable" said Shire President Cr Paul Omodei. "It is simply another form of aluminium, no different really to the drink cans we see everywhere. And recycling it helps to reduce our need to extract new resources from the earth."
As long as it is clear of chocolate residues and dry, foil from Easter eggs can be recycled through household yellow-lid recycling bins or at any Shire of Manjimup waste facility recycling drop-off bulk bin.
Foil balls can be made from a variety of aluminium foil sources including Easter egg wrappers, small pie dishes, yoghurt pot tops and home-wrapped foods.
"A great time to start collecting foil for recycling is at Easter" said Cr Omodei. "Make sure it's clean and dry, roll what you have into a little ball, then start adding any other aluminium foil you use throughout the year. See how much you accumulate over twelve months, then send it to recycling."
The Shire of Manjimup's recycling contractor, Cleanaway, is able to process balls of aluminium foil as long as they are at least six centimetres in diameter, about the size of a child's palm.
