The Shire of Manjimup is supporting the Help is Here campaign, to ensure all Australians know where to go for help if they are at risk of or experiencing violence.
We know many families in the shire are doing it tough as a result of COVID-19 but we want to remind everyone that there is no excuse for family or domestic violence.
COVID-19 has seen unprecedented stress and pressure on many families in our community. But tough times don't excuse tougher times at home. Help is here, use the support services available. 1800RESPECT and MensLine Australia offer free 24/7 advice and counselling online and by phone.
Shire President, Paul Omodei said it was important that all members of the community, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents, know that help is available.
"Here at the Shire of Manjimup, we are pleased that this campaign is helping all families know where to seek help if they need it. There are resources and services available to specifically support those at risk of or experiencing violence," he said.
"There is absolutely no excuse for family or domestic violence or abuse. As a community, we need to look out for each other. If you are experiencing family or domestic violence, you are not alone. Help is here" said Councillor Omodei.
The campaign is being rolled out nationally with advertising across Indigenous and mainstream media outlets and in shopping centres, hospitals, Aboriginal Medical Services and health services.
