Enthusiasm is building and performers are rehearsing to demonstrate the vast and varied local talent we have on hand in Manjimup and to showcase the Sandra Donovan Sound Shell at the official opening celebration to be held on Friday 20 April 2018.
Organisers have put together an outstanding stream of local talent to entertain the crowd for the evening including singers, musicians, dancers and theatre from 4.30pm. The official opening celebration will commence at 6pm and the Sandra Donovan Sound Shell will be officially opened at 6.30pm by the Hon. Adele Farina MLC.
The Sandra Donovan Sound Shell has been named in honour of the late Sandra Donovan who passed away aged 46 in October 2011. Sandra devoted herself to the musical needs of the community, from singing groups, old time dances, repertory club performances, school events, and more. Sandra touched many people in her short life through her music teaching, performance arts and community.
Shire President Paul Omodei described the Sound Shell as an exceptional facility "The Sound Shell delivers a multi-functional, robust and accessible performance venue in Manjimup, encompassing a state-of-the-art, fully equipped stage, fully functional backstage area, multi-purpose room and amenities."
The final product includes:
- Multipurpose stage over 80m2 to accommodate all performing arts, patched lighting and sound system to allow temporary installation of lighting and sound equipment - including built in patch panel, some lighting and a portable PA system for smaller community concerts.
- Two 20m2 green rooms with built in vanity, benches and basins.
- A 40m2 general assembly area for larger performance groups or meetings.
- Two ambulant toilets and one universally accessible toilet with shower.
The Shire President added "This facility which was funded by the Regional Growth Centre initiative and LotteryWest, has added to the Manjimup Timber and Heritage Park as a regional attractor and community hub, and will increase the community's access to arts and culture by attracting a range of performance arts to the region."
"Be sure to bring a chair and picnic and 'listen to the sound shell', show your support for our local talent, honour Sandra Donovan and enjoy all that your sound shell has to offer" added Cr Omodei.
