LotteryWest Facelift for Northcliffe Playground
The ageing playground at the Northcliffe Recreation Centre has had a major facelift thanks to the generosity of a LotteryWest grant valued at $32,000, the Northcliffe Community Development Group, the Northcliffe Recreation Association and the Shire of Manjimup
Now suitable for toddlers through to young teenagers, the improvements will connect children to local sports and activities. They will support the Northcliffe Recreation Association's objectives to promote the recreation precinct as a place to participate in sport and recreation activities in safe facilities, on appropriate equipment, and as a place that attracts residents and visitors to Northcliffe.
Shire President Paul Omodei said "The old playground at the Recreation Centre had a couple of ageing play items for young children. The need to expand and improve the playground was identified in the Northcliffe Recreation Grounds Master Plan 2018.
The Northcliffe Recreation Grounds provide a suite of sporting and recreation services including an indoor stadium, an oval, four tennis courts, a seven rink bowling green and a multi-use pavilion with large room, kitchen, toilets and showers.
"The Recreation Centre is used almost daily by a variety of groups, community members, businesses, and schools, and regularly serves as a community centre. The new equipment consisting of a large multi-climbing station, a double swing and rocker, makes the playground more inviting to a wider age group. Again we thank LotteryWest for their generous contribution to facilities in our Shire."
The grounds are the hub of the community in Northcliffe for recreation activities, events, festivals, training, and other community activities which require a hired venue. This was demonstrated through the significant community effort organised by the Northcliffe Recreation Association to prepare the area and install the soft fall sand.
