Lotterywest funds for Sound Shell and Recreation Plaza
Media Release: - Lotterywest grant funds sound shell and recreation plaza
July 2017
Lotterywest announced on the 7 July 2017 that the Shire of Manjimup has been successful in obtaining a grant $1,168,869. The funds are to be used towards a new multi-purpose, multi-generational recreation plaza to be located in Manjin Park and an outdoor performance sound shell, in the Timber and Heritage Park in honour of local musician Sandra Donovan.
"This funding, which leverages off the Revitalisation of Manjimup's Town Centre project funding, is a significant contribution to both projects", said Acting Shire President Dean Bavich.
"These facilities will offer a number of recreational and social opportunities for families and youth in the Manjimup community and help to lift the appeal of the region by providing an outdoor entertainment venue and a family friendly youth zone."
The proposed purpose built outdoor sound shell will be delivered as a part of the transformation of the Manjimup Timber and Heritage Park. The Park has been home to numerous performances over the years, which has demonstrated the need for a dedicated performance space for community groups, schools, event organisers and touring artists. The sound shell design was chosen by the community from three models.
The Manjin Recreation Plaza acknowledges the diversity of current user styles, the design incorporates a number of different rideable elements and features to provide continued progression for beginners through to experienced users. The design addresses the key consultation outcomes derived from the pre-design community consultations.
