The Manjimup Moods exhibition showcases a selection of artworks by Manjimup Art Society Award winners from 1967 to 1978.The works, in oil, acrylic, watercolour and pencil, are by local and regional artists and feature landscapes, portraits and a selection of more contemporary pieces.
The exhibition will be on display at the Manjimup Art Gallery (cnr Rose and Mount Streets) from 8-24 November 2018.
The first Manjimup Art Prize was awarded in 1967. At the time, Leon Kalamaris was teaching evening art classes in Manjimup. It was at his suggestion that the students and other interested locals established the Manjimup Art Society. The art prize soon followed.
Although at various times a selection of the works have been displayed at venues around Manjimup, including the Town Hall, Moonya Lodge, Manjimup Senior High School and the Warren District Hospital, this is the first time that such a large number of the collection has been exhibited at once. Two very dedicated local artists, Sue Bradshaw and Fay Dunstan, have volunteered hours of their time in recent months, to ensure the works are in optimum condition.
Shire President, Paul Omodei said "The exhibition demonstrates the willingness and importance of volunteers in realising community projects." He went on to say "The exhibition highlights the quality and diversity of artistic talent in the region at the time of the art prize and this has only grown".
