Manjimup Public Library part of a new Super Library'
MEDIA RELEASE - Manjimup Public Library part of a new 'Super Library'
August 2016
The Shire of Manjimup's Public Libraries in Manjimup, Pemberton, Northcliffe and Walpole have recently joined forces with ten other local governments to implement a 'one card', super library system. In a first for Western Australia, the new system will enable library members to access and return resources to any one of 20 libraries scattered throughout the South West, as though they are all one library.
The one-card system has come about through a joint initiative between 11 local governments, who will soon commence implementing a new, shared library management software. "This approach represents a cohesive, regional approach," said Shire President Wade DeCampo. "It also represents a significant cost saving for each of the local governments who are taking part in the rollout of the system."
The local governments participating in the new one-card super library, along with the Shire of Manjimup, are:
- Boyup Brook- Bridgetown-Greenbushes- Bunbury - Busselton - Capel | - Dardanup- Donnybrook-Balingup- Harvey - Nannup - Waroona
|
"This new one-card system has literally expanded the collection that library members have available to them," said Cr DeCampo. "It is an incentive for people who aren't already a member of their local library, to do so."
The one-card system will allow any member from any of the libraries can borrow and/or return to any of the libraries. For example, if you're visiting Busselton and find something you would like to borrow whilst browsing their collection, you can borrow using your Manjimup Public Library card. You can then return that resource when you get back to Manjimup, or to any of the participating libraries.
"It is the regional approach we're promoting across the board whilst fostering strong relationships within the library system and giving members another reason to go exploring a little further afield," concluded Cr DeCampo.
