Milestone Councillor
Tuesday 5 May 2020 marked a milestone 25 years of service by Cr David Tapley (South Ward). Cr Tapley was first elected in May 1995 and has maintained continued service the entire time. Dave is a long-time Walpole local, affectionately known as the 'Mayor of Walpole'.
He has been re-elected six times and is currently serving his seventh four-year term on Council. Shire President Paul Omodei described Dave as the 'ideal' Councillor, saying "his focus is always his community and what he can do to make their quality of life better''.
"He's a true gentlemen and an absolute champion on Council, we could all learn a lot from Dave. Whilst his community means the world to him, he always makes an effort to be a part of initiatives and projects in other wards and has a strong representation at Council events," said Cr Omodei.
"What we all appreciate and enjoy about Dave is his positive and infectious outlook. He is very adept at being a Councillor and he enjoys every minute of it. Dave has not been opposed in his seat in all those years, he has achieved many improvements and bought much progress to Walpole, probably most notable is his contribution to Keep Australia Beautiful and Walpole's Tidy Towns reputation."
"Congratulations to you Dave, we whole heartedly thank you for everything you do both for the Shire and for Council," concluded Cr Omodei.
Councillors put a lot of time effort into representing residents in their wards, in a role which is both rewarding and challenging, to maintain this level of community service for 25 years is a huge achievement and demonstration of commitment, not only to the public, but also to the area. Next time you see Dave be sure to pass on your gratitude.
