Mums, step mums, aunts, grandmothers or those who play a significant role in a young girl's life are invited to the first Mother and Daughter skateboarding workshop to be held at the Manjin Rec Plaza from 10am to 2pm, on Saturday 7 December 2019. The Mother and Daughter skateboarding workshop is a great opportunity for Mums and daughters to spend some quality one on one time together, learn new skills, challenge themselves and have fun together. Skateboarding is great fun, and has health and fitness benefits for woman of all ages, so come down to the Manjin Rec Plaza and join us to learn the basics of skateboarding with the amazing skater Mum, Ness Moore. A family of skaters, the Moore's have skated and surfed their way around Australia. When the Moore's decided to head home it wasn't long before they realised that they wanted to share the joy of skateboarding with others. Thus a highly successful business was created teaching kids and their parents the art and joy of skateboarding.
A mother and daughters bond influence's our lives in ways we don't even realise. The relationship is so powerful it can affect everything from health and self-esteem to body image and emotional wellbeing and sets the stage for other relationships. Most parents are concerned about raising young people in an environment where drugs, alcohol and other risks are prevalent in our communities; having a strong relationship and learning how to relate to the young people in our lives gives them a good start in learning how to navigate the risks and stressors of being a young person.
In a safe and supervised environment, the day will start on the grass, learning riding and pushing stances, while slowly progressing your skills. We will then move over to the skatepark were you will learn a few basic moves and entry levels tricks. All equipment is provided, skateboards, helmets and pads, as well as lunch for the low cost of five dollars per person.
Come down to the Rec Plaza and let Ness and her team show you how much fun skateboarding can be. With life becoming more stressful it's always good to find some way to unwind and give some time to your relationship with a significant young lady in your life.
The event was made possible by the funding and in-kind support from the following organisations. Alcohol and Drug Foundation, Southern Forest Alcohol and Other Drug Management Committee, Shire of Manjimup, St John of God Bunbury.
