The Shire of Manjimup's Wellness and Respite Community Centre are extremely grateful to Manjimup Community Op Shop for the generous donation of $5,000 to enable the purchase of a bariatric bed.
A bariatric hospital bed is a bed that is reinforced to support a higher weight capacity than a traditional hospital bed. Bariatric beds need to not only handle the additional weight of a large patient but do so comfortably for the end-user, the beds feature a special reinforced frame designed to provide ultimate support and comfortable positioning to patients up to 350kg.
The Manjimup Community Op Shop is run by a group of local volunteers with the aim of proceeds from community donations going back into the local community. As well as the Wellness and Respite Centre the Manjimup Op Shop have also funded a bariatric bed for the Warren Health Service Hospital, as well as monetary assistance to various community groups.
Shire President Paul Omodei said "The volunteering spirit of our community is a strong trait of regional living and something to be proud and thankful of. The bariatric bed is a wonderful donation and will be utilised at Respite House. Specialised equipment such as this is sometimes unobtainable due to the expense but this donation enabling the purchase of a larger size bed will make all the difference to the comfort of some consumers of the Respite House."
The Manjimup Community Op Shop welcomes your donations which can be dropped at 56 Rose Street Manjimup from 9am to 3pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
