Pemberton Breaks Ground on New Project on the New Doc Ryan Place
The first soil has been turned to commence construction works on the Pemberton Community Colocation project. This project will see the contemporary redevelopment and extension of the RSL Memorial Library and Infant Health Centre, as well as the refurbishment of the Little Taddies Day Care, into fit-for-purpose facilities for eight community stakeholders.
A sod turning ceremony was held on Wednesday 3 March 2021 in the Pemberton Memorial Park to celebrate the construction phase of the Pemberton Community Colocation Precinct. The official proceedings were conducted by Shire President Paul Omodei.
Lotterywest is a major supporter of the precinct redevelopment, which is also funded by the Shire of Manjimup along with community stakeholder contributions. This new multi-purpose facility will be the key community and cultural precinct of the Pemberton Town Centre, providing a new home for the Public Library, Returned Service League (RSL), Pemberton Community Resource Centre, Pemberton Arts Group, Pemberton History and Heritage Group, Pemberton Chamber of Commerce, Little Taddies Day Care and the Visitor Centre.
This project is the culmination of over eight years of consultation and design, to deliver on a vision of eight distinct community groups uniting their ideas, resources, activities and services to create opportunities for connection and involvement for locals and visitors. The precinct will be a multi-functional hub that nurtures collaboration, activity and innovation in the shared benefit of the community.
Shire President Paul Omodei said that this is a historical occasion "The colocation of important community infrastructure of this scale does not happen often. This coupled with the opening of Doc Ryan Place commemorates the outstanding services provided to the Pemberton and wider community by Dr Edward Clifford Lee Ryan over many years" he said.
"The colocation building tender was awarded to Karamfiles Builders an award winning building company. The anticipated opening of the colocation facility in May 2022 will be a red-letter day for Pemberton" he added.
