In March 2019 the Shire of Manjimup held a naming competition for the new museum in the Manjimup Heritage Park. The naming competition provided a unique opportunity for local and state-wide stakeholders to play a part in the naming of a significant cultural and heritage asset.
The competition closed on 17 April and a panel of six independent judges met to discuss the forty submissions received. The potential new names for the museum sparked great discussion amongst the panelists. After significant deliberation the panel selected a name that was recommended for endorsement by Council.
At Council's 2 May 2019 meeting the name "Powerup Electricity Museum" was officially endorsed.
The Shire of Manjimup would like to congratulate competition winner Lyn Neal for her winning submission.
Powerup Electricity Museum is a short and precise name and lends itself to simple slogans such as "Powerup in Manjimup". Power-up also means the place of power, "up" meaning place of in Noongar.
Shire President Paul Omodei thanks all those who took the time to make a submission and looks forward to using this new name for this exciting new museum which is scheduled to open in December 2019.
