Rail Corridor Agreement Released
Media Release: Rail Corridor Agreement Released
August 2017
A tripartite agreement has been reached between the Shire of Manjimup, the Public Transport Authority and Arc Infrastructure (formerly Brookfield Rail) to release a 3.9km section of rail corridor though the Manjimup town site from Graphite Rd to 100m south of Seven Day Rd. This Use and Occupation Agreement will allow the Shire to move forward with plans under Stage 2 of the Town Centre Revitalisation Project to create a "Linear Park" redefining the "east - west" separation of the Manjimup town site and permitting significant connectivity improvements.
"The Shire has been in negotiations since 2012 to gain access for use and occupation of the rail corridor, this achievement is a significant enabler to the delivery of Stage 2 of the Revitalisation of Manjimup's Town Centre Project." said Shire President Paul Omodei.
The "Tripartite Agreement for Use and Occupation of Corridor Land and Railway Infrastructure" enables the Shire of Manjimup to commission the following preparatory works:
- Engagement of Arc Infrastructure for the removal of rail infrastructure including track, sleepers and crossing infrastructure between Ralston Street and Ipsen Street, Manjimup and at other dedicated road crossing points;
- Removal of the ballast and formation between Ralston Street and Ipsen Street, Manjimup; and
- Removal of rail exclusion fencing between Ralston Street and Ipsen Street, Manjimup.
Permitted under the Tripartite Agreement are the following activities by the Shire of Manjimup (subject to final design approval by Arc Infrastructure).
Beautification | Pedestrian path networks |
Solar lighting | Seating |
Minor shelters | Art and sculpture |
Landscaping | Bollards |
Drainage | Bins |
Exercise equipment | Signage |
Rail relics | Road crossing points |
In the event that the railway was to become operational at any stage in the future, provision exists within the agreement requiring the Shire of Manjimup to return the rail corridor back to the original condition (minus the removed track and sleepers).
"The Agreement between Arc Infrastructure, Public Transport Authority of Western Australia and the Shire of Manjimup is reasonable in that not only does it protect the interests of the State of Western Australia and the Network Lessee Arc Infrastructure, it also enables the Shire of Manjimup to proceed with the strategic delivery of the Linear Park component within the Revitalisation of Manjimup's Town Centre Project and we will be working closely with Arc Infrastructure to finalise designs and remove some of the rail infrastructure over the next few months" added Councillor Omodei.
