Recognition of Max Lefroy at helipad unveiling

The helipad was officially opened by Shire President Paul Omodei on Monday 3 September 2018. The project has been made all the more successful with the joint efforts from the Shire, Department of Transport and our local DBCA who worked diligently to ensure we got the best end product.

The new facility will help improve safety in the airport especially during bushfire season when the airport is busy with varying types of planes added Cr Omodei.

Department of Transport Southern Regional Director, Sue Lannin said the new helicopter landing site is just one example of the important projects that Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS) grants help fund, with $70,000 in RADS funding going to this project from the 2017-19 RADS round.

The completion of the new Manjimup helipad is well timed for the impending summer season and will help improve safety for fire fighters, Royal Flying Doctors Service and the community during bushfire season, added Ms Lannin.

The Shire of Manjimup and DBCA also took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank Mr Max Lefroy who has been the Manjimup Airport Reporting Officer for nearly 20 years now. Max has been involved in all aspects of the airport from daily inspections to donating machinery to facilitate the airport extension. Max is also an active member of the Manjimup Aeroclub.
