Safety in the natural environment
MEDIA RELEASE - Safety in the natural environment
April 2016
Following the recent tragic loss of a young life to a motor vehicle accident in D'entrecasteaux National Park, Shire President Wade DeCampo is encouraging people to practice extra vigilance in environments that are different to the conditions that they are accustomed to driving in.
"We were saddened to hear that a young man had lost his life doing something he enjoyed and I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends," said Cr DeCampo.
During school holidays there is often an influx of people to the rugged coastline of the Southern Ocean, located in the State Forest of the Shire of Manjimup and Cr DeCampo is reminding people that they need to be aware of the various obstacles they may encounter.
"It is that time of the year again when a lot of people make their way to the coast for the fishing opportunities and the tracks and surrounds can be very challenging, even for the most experience four-wheel-drivers," explained Cr DeCampo.
"It is just a matter of being very aware and very careful, because the conditions are nothing like the roads that we get used to driving on."
The Department of Parks and Wildlife offer safety and driving tips for the various facilities which they manage, including Lake Yeargerup and Yeargerup Beach.
"I hope everybody from within our community and everyone who visits the region has a safe and happy holiday, no matter what activities you are partaking in," said Cr DeCampo.
