Shire President standing down in March
MEDIA RELEASE - Shire President standing down in March
January 2017
At the first Ordinary Council Meeting for 2017 which was held last night in Manjimup, Shire President Wade DeCampo announced that he will be standing down as Shire President at the commencement of the Ordinary Council Meeting that is scheduled on Thursday, 2 March 2017.
Cr DeCampo, who has been a Shire of Manjimup Councillor since 2001 and Shire President since 2005, said that it has been both a privilege and an honour to be a part of Council for over 15 years. "As a group we have always worked very well together. The entire community is very fortunate to be represented by Councillors who come from diverse backgrounds, and who cover a wide cross-section of interests, concerns, curiosities and focus areas," said Cr DeCampo.
"I'm really proud of the well-researched, strong and rational decisions that we have made together over the years, which is also thanks to our qualified, knowledgeable and experienced management team, who together with the staff of the Shire of Manjimup, make a very cohesive organisation."
Councillor DeCampo will still participate in the meeting on Thursday, 2 March 2017 in his long-standing position as Councillor for the West Ward, rather than as Shire President. "Representing the Pemberton Ward, now known as the West Ward, is where I started and it is where I want to be as the role of Shire President gets handed onto someone new," explained Cr DeCampo.
During his time as Shire President, Cr DeCampo has been a member of the Audit Advisory Committee, Local Emergency Management Committee, Pemberton Town Centre Revitalisation Advisory Committee as well as additional organisational and community groups. He has also been a board member with the South West Development Commission and Commissioner with the Conservation Commission of Western Australia.
A new Shire President will be voted on, by Councillors, at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Thursday, 2 March 2017. Following Council elections in October 2017 another election for Shire President will be conducted.
