Custom street furniture designed and built by Shire of Manjimup staff is being installed in Brockman Street, Manjimup. The robust and sustainable alfresco furniture consisting of four 'dry' bars and four tables have been constructed using recycled railway sleepers from the Manjin Park precinct, recycled galvanized fence posts from Coronation Park and the Heritage Park, recycled jarrah timber from disassembled structures in the Heritage Park and a range of table tops consisting of local Blackbutt, Marri and Jarrah timbers.
The impressive modern industrial pieces are set to furnish the Brockman Street food precinct into a user friendly and enjoyable space for all, as well as increasing the capacity of the surrounding food businesses by providing an alfresco dining space. The Building Services team have been constructing the furniture over several weeks with the finishing touches and installations occurring currently.
Complementing the recycled materials are tractor style seats from Stan's Machinery, fabricated rotating seat brackets from Perrella Steel and timber slabs from Slab'n'Burl.
Three of the 'dry' bars and the four wheelchair accessible tables will be installed on the southern side of Brockman Street with the fourth 'dry' bar installed on the northern side. "I am thoroughly impressed with this furniture, it certainly brings a WOW factor to complement the Brockman Street revitalisation, it is rustic and polished, functional and totally unique to our area" commented Shire President Paul Omodei.
"It is envisaged that with the coming summer months and the end of COVID restrictions we will see the CBD liven up again, with Brockman Street being a significant meeting place. With the roof and lighting already complete the furniture will form the area as a multipurpose, multifunction space".
