With more than 220 children in attendance, the Warren Blackwood Early Years Network, in conjunction with the Shire of Manjimup, Western Australian Country Health, Parenting Connections WA and 15 additional services and organisations, hosted another very successful Messy Play Day for children aged 0-6.
The event held at the Manjimup Timber and Heritage Park on 5 October 2017 promoted sensory development play with parents. Messy play is about giving children fun sensory play experiences without parents having to cope with the mess and clean-up that quite often puts us off having messy play time with our children.
Shire President Paul Omodei explains that by giving children the opportunity to investigate materials with no preconceived knowledge or familiarity with them, you're helping them develop and refine their cognitive, social, emotional, physical, creative and linguistic skillsets.
"Children learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses and ultimately and without a doubt, we need to experience certain properties with our senses in order to comprehend and communicate important properties." said Cr Omodei.
The Messy Play Day is funded through the Shire of Manjimup, Parenting Connections WA and partnered by:
