The Shire of Manjimup's official Citizen of the Year Awards Ceremony will take place in conjunction with Walpole Community Resource Centre's annual "Av' a G'day" on Australia Day Friday 26 January 2018. Celebrations in Pioneer Park will commence at 8.30am with an exciting range of activities for the whole family to enjoy and the official ceremony to be held at 12 noon.
The official ceremony includes an Acknowledgement of Country, Australia Day address from Shire President Paul Omodei, entertainment by talented Walpole local Rob Vermeulen as well as bush poet Peter Blythe and guest speaker Gary Muir of WOW Wilderness Eco Cruises, presentation of the Premier's Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards and the Australian Citizenship Ceremony.
As well as acknowledging the efforts of all involved in the day's activities, Shire President Paul Omodei said "we have many individuals and groups in our community who are dedicated to the liveability of our region, who give freely of their time and effort for our safety and enjoyment. We don't thank or acknowledge them enough and the Australian Citizenship Awards are the pinnacle of thanks and recognition for the worthy recipients. It is also always a fantastic opportunity to welcome new Australians through a citizenship ceremony on Australia Day."
Throughout the day there will be market stalls, bouncy castles, face painting, sheep dog demonstrations, shearing demonstrations, wool classing, petting zoo, live music and more. "It is going to be an action packed day, so get together with your family and friends and make a day of it in Walpole," added Cr Omodei.
Cr Omodei encourages people to celebrate Australia Day and to give thanks and appreciation for the lifestyle our wonderful country affords us.
