The Shire of Manjimup received a Commendation at the 2019 Awards for Planning Excellence in the Healthy by Active Design Category for the Manjin Park Project. Director of Development and Regulation Brian Robinson attended the awards event on Friday 8 November at the Westin Perth.
For organisations involved in planning, the Awards are a chance to be publicly recognised for their achievements, and to showcase leading practice across a range of planning disciplines and sectors.
Promoting planning success stories through the Awards is a great way to demonstrate to the community why 'Planning Matters'.
The Award recognises projects that support and promote healthy and active living, with the intent to increase the community's physical activity and healthy outcomes in the built environment. The Heart Foundation, as the sponsor of the award, advocates for environments that promote and support physical activity and heart-health. In collaboration with a number of stakeholders, including the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) the Heart Foundation supports the creation of healthy built environments to get more Australians healthy and active. The built environment in which we live, work and play has a critical role in shaping our health.
"Whilst we didn't win the award a commendation is definite recognition of the forward planning and hard work put into the Manjin Park precinct. Great areas like this don't just fall into place, and I commend our team for their tremendous efforts. The Manjin Park precinct is really something to be proud of, it is a fantastic area for recreation with the skate park, basketball court, outdoor gym and playground, with Linear Path running through it is a fabulous family and tourism friendly area with a direct link into the CBD", commented Shire President Paul Omodei.
