Artworks by three very talented local artists will feature in a major exhibition at the John Curtin Gallery in Perth from 15 May to 5 July 2020.
Jewellery Artist and Sculptor, Louise Tasker, Textile Artist, Lizzie Troup and Wordsmith, Claudette Mountjoy, will showcase their work alongside other artists from throughout Western Australia at The Alternative Archive exhibition at the John Curtin Gallery. "The 2020 exhibition will be a contemporary visual archive of regional Western Australian arts practice, documenting a dynamic anthology of how regional artists relate to the people, homes, towns or regions that they know so well" according to Chris Malcolm, Director of the John Curtin Gallery.
The Alternative Archive project is part of a Regional Arts Partnership program developed to link regional artists and to inspire arts development throughout the state. It culminated in 13 regional locations staging individual exhibitions that were linked collectively as part of the project. The exhibition at the John Curtin Gallery will showcase a selection of works drawn from these.
In June 2019, artists in the Shire of Manjimup were invited to submit works that characterised what bound them to this place as part of the project. The result, The Alternative Archive - Nectere, was one of the largest and most innovative exhibitions ever held at the Manjimup Art Gallery.
Shire President, Paul Omodei, said "The Alternative Archive project exemplifies the importance of activities that offer new and interesting opportunities for local artists to explore unconventional themes, media and interpretations".
