Call for donations following Northcliffe and Walpole bushfires
MEDIA RELEASE - Call for donations following Northcliffe and Walpole bushfires
March 2015
The Shire of Manjimup is calling for donations to go towards recovery efforts, with specific community needs now becoming apparent following the bushfire event that rocked the towns of Northcliffe and Walpole.
"The Shire was inundated with offers of help from across the State, but now, as the fire dies down and people have had the time to take account of what has been damaged on their properties, the real needs of the community are emerging," said Shire President Wade DeCampo.
The Shire has established a facility through which the community can make donations, and the recovery committee will allocate the funds across the areas of priority which are being identified by the communities of Northcliffe and Walpole.
"At the moment, the Recovery Committee is finding that the areas of equal priority are the Northcliffe Family Centre, transport for animal feed such as hay, and fencing materials and labour associated with fencing," said Cr DeCampo.
Cr DeCampo explained that in its weekly meeting held on Tuesday 3 March, the Recovery Committee vowed to honour any specific requests that people or organisations making donations may have, saying "if someone wishes for their donation to go towards the Northcliffe Family Centre which provides vital support services to the community, or any other specific effort or initiative in the recovery process, then the Recovery Committee will respect that person or organisation's request."
Donations are being accepted via direct debit into the Shire of Manjimup Trust Fund Account, BSB 036 126 Account Number 830 418. Donations can also be made in person at the Shire of Manjimup Customer Service Centre, 37 Rose Street Manjimup.
"Now is when the communities really need your support," said Cr DeCampo.
