The Shire of Manjimup is encouraging residents to heed the warnings and alerts from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in relation to the bushfires which are burning out of control, particularly in and around Northcliffe townsite and south of Middleton Road, east of Gabbedy Road, north of Chesapeake Road and Steves Road and west of Deeside Coast Road.The fire is posing a severe threat to lives and homes in and around Northcliffe townsite and the subdivisions of Parkview, Bracken Rise and Double Bridge .
Shire President Wade DeCampo explains "The Shire is working very closely with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of Parks and Wildlife in defending property and getting the fire under control. Crews are working hard both on the firefront and in the control centre, doing everything possible contain the fire."
"At the moment, the main priority is to make sure our community members and crews all remain safe," Cr DeCampo added.
"The current update from DFES for residents is that if the way is clear, you need to leave now. It is not safe to stay and actively defend. The best way out is to head north towards Pemberton along the Pemberton-Northcliffe Road," said Cr DeCampo.
An emergency relocation point has been set up at the Pemberton Sports Club, 1 Club Road, Pemberton. People evacuating to the Pemberton Sports Club are being encouraged to bring their own bedding.
A community meeting will be held at the Pemberton Mill Hall on Brockman Street in Pemberton at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 3 February 2015.
