MEDIA RELEASE - State and Federal funding to benefit the Shire's seniors
February 2015
The Shire of Manjimup's Home and Community Care (HACC) unit has recently been awarded $750,000 of federal funding, which will be put towards the construction of a Wellness and Lifestyle Centre in Manjimup. In addition, Royalties for Regions state funding of $1,207,000 was announced last week to go towards the expansion of Northcliffe Retirement Village from five to nine units, as well as $1,340,000 to extend Pemberton Aged Accommodation Village by three units, plus site works and head works to support the development of an additional eight units.
The support our Shire has received for Seniors initiatives in the last twelve months really demonstrates the importance of this demographic, explained Shire President Wade DeCampo.
The Shire's Active Ageing Strategic PlanSuperTown Growth Plan, identify the need to address the housing needs of older people through effective urban planning strategies, whilst addressing issues of affordability and ensuring appropriate funding is sought from Government and other stakeholders.
By providing aged accommodation in all of our towns, and a wellness centre in Manjimup, we're aiming to assist our community to age in place, said Cr DeCampo. It's about keeping the family unit together, and enabling people to remain in the area they love as they age, with the environment, support networks and care professionals that they are familiar with.
HACC have also received additional federal funding which is being put towards expansion of HACC services in Northcliffe.
The Northcliffe and Pemberton aged accommodation projects are some of the first for the South-West that are being funded under the State's $600 million Growing our South' initiative that was announced in the last State Budget.
