New lights will soon shine brightly at the Manjimup Rea Park and Collier Street Reserve, thanks to a successful Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) funding application by the Shire of Manjimup. Combined with a Shire contribution of $511,555 and federal funding of $675,685 from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Phase 3, the $483,475 funding received from the new DLGSC Club Night Lights Program will result in a required power upgrade to the entire Reserve and the installation of sports compliant LED lighting on all existing fields at the Reserve, including the Rea Park oval and all multi-use sporting fields at Collier Street.
The $1.67 million project is expected to provide significant benefits, such as increased scheduling opportunities, to the existing sporting users which include football, hockey, soccer and cricket. Consultation with sporting clubs has helped to determine the design scope for the lighting, which will be compliant with state and national sports lighting guidelines.
The lighting project is just one component of the Manjimup Rea Park and Collier Street Redevelopment project, which aims to develop a premier level facility catering for high level sporting events, in addition to regular club usage and regional level community events. The Shire will be continuing to plan each of the remaining project components, which includes a new pavilion, upgraded playing fields, and increased storage facilities, while overseeing the implementation of the new lighting.
“Congratulations to the Community Development Team for pulling together the excellent grant submission that secured this funding” said Shire President Paul Omodei. “This is the catalyst for the beginning of the Manjimup Rea Park and Collier Street redevelopment project”.
“We will be seeking further funding from the State and Federal Governments’ to see this redevelopment project finished in a timely manner” he added.
