At the Council meeting held on 28 July 2022, Council adopted the 2022-23 financial budget.
The budget encompasses a rate rise of 4.9 percent.
The 2022-23 budget continues to be focused on addressing maintenance of core infrastructure, but also looks to carrying on the work to date on the Shire’s aging recreation infrastructure, in particular continuing the process of upgrading the Collier Street/Rea Park precinct.
Shire President Paul Omodei noted “It is always a difficult time throughout budget considerations, this level of rate rise is larger than usual, and is not taken lightly as most in the community are experiencing financial stress”.
“Like all organisations across the State, this year’s budget has been greatly impacted by increased costs and availability of materials and contractors. This is reflected by the high level of carry forwards from the 2021/2022 financial year” he added.
The 2022-23 budget reflects:
- Continuation of the Pemberton Colocation $1,474,758;
- Progression of the Manjimup Trail Bike Hub project $1,328,285;
- Funding of Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 and Corporate Business Plan 2022-2026 initiatives;
- Increase in the municipal amount of road infrastructure renewal funding by $100,000, to $1,565,000 allowing for greater leverage of grant funding;
- Continuation of the Main Street Upgrade and Renewal Program $250,000;
- Continuation of the Fuel Hazard Reduction Program $389,320;
- Continuation of funding to support the success of our community groups running Shire recreation facilities in our towns.
Major road works this year include Graphite, Perup, North Walpole, Wheatley Coast, Channybearup and Old Vasse Roads with major bridge works to take place on Mordalup, Holleys, Hatchery, Franco, and Muirillup Road Bridges, as well as our ongoing resheeting and sealing works across our extensive road network.
”As always, the Budget has been produced carefully considering both the Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 and Council’s Corporate Business Plan 2022-2026 documents, with the rate rise of 4.9 percent sitting below the Perth CPI of 7.4 percent” added Cr Omodei.”.
