Living in Buildings other than Dwellings
The Shire of Manjimup is concerned about the reported increase in the number of people living in buildings not designed or approved as dwellings.
Living in buildings that are not designed as dwellings can pose serious safety and health risks to occupants and could contribute to illnesses or even death. Additionally using a building in a manner other than what it was approved for could void your insurance.
Dwellings or Class 1a buildings are required to meet the minimum requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC) so as to ensure the health and wellbeing of all occupants.
The Shire of Manjimup is soon to conduct an audit of properties within the Shire using our new aerial imagery data. Prior to this audit being conducted the Shire is encouraging anyone who is currently living in a building not approved as a dwelling to reach out to our building team and discuss the options available.
If you are in this situation or just want further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact Building Services on 97717777 or by email to buildingservices@manjimup.wa.gov.au
