The Shire of Manjimup’s Property Care Team has been named the winner of the Western Australian Community Achievement APM Sustainable Disability Employment Award.
The award recognises businesses that are making a positive social impact by creating employment opportunities for people living with disabilities. The Shire’s Property Care Team is a shining example of this commitment, with a team of five individuals with disabilities carrying out outdoor property maintenance tasks.
The Shire has provided the team with dedicated equipment and training opportunities to ensure their success and integration into the broader Shire workforce. Beyond providing jobs, the initiative has fostered a sense of pride, accomplishment, and responsibility within the community.
“We are incredibly proud to win this award and equally proud of the Property Care Team for their hard work and dedication,” said Shire President Donelle Buegge. “This award is a testament to their commitment to their work and to the Shire’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace.”
“I would like thank the Western Australian Community Achievement Awards Committee and APM for this recognition, and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development for making the Awards possible along with Woolworths and The Career College for the prizes” President Buegge added.
The Property Care Team’s quality workmanship is highly sought after, solidifying their impact on the community. By championing inclusivity, the Shire is paving the way for a more diverse and equitable workplace, open to all job applicants in the Manjimup community.
Matthew Staporek, DES Regional Manager APM presented the Award at the Western Australian Community Achievement Awards presentation night held at the Hyatt Regency Perth on Friday 27 October 2023.
