Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-2029

The Shire of Manjimup is proud to announce the adoption of its Access and Inclusion Plan 2024-2029, a five-year roadmap to creating a more inclusive and accessible community for all residents and visitors.

Through this Plan, the Shire aims to ensure that the services it provides meet the varied individual needs and expectations of its community, and that everyone has equal access to these services regardless of their race, heritage, gender, belief, nationality, family background, age, disability, or sexuality.

Key highlights of the plan include:

• Promoting physical accessibility: This includes improving the built environment, such as installing ramps, accessible toilets, and clear signage, along with initiatives to enhance public transport accessibility.
• Breaking down communication barriers: Implementing strategies to provide information and services in multiple languages and formats and improving customer service training for Shire staff.
• Fostering inclusive community events and programs: Encouraging participation from diverse groups through inclusive programming, accessible facilities, and targeted outreach.
• Building awareness and understanding: Implementing education and training programs to promote empathy and social inclusion within the community.

Shire President, Donelle Buegge said "This plan is a commitment to building a Shire where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to participate fully in our community life. We recognise that accessibility and inclusion are not just about physical barriers, but also about creating a culture of acceptance and understanding."

The Shire of Manjimup recognises that the task of addressing the many important issues that affect our diverse community is not an easy one. The Shire will endeavour, however, through ongoing consultation and involvement with the community, to identify and eliminate as many barriers and challenges to access and inclusion as possible and work towards achieving a community that is liveable for all.
