After being named the winner of the Western Australian Community Achievement APM Sustainable Disability Employment Award late last year, the Shire of Manjimup's Property Care Team have chosen to share their well-deserved prize with a local cause close to their hearts.
The APM Sustainable Disability Employment Award recognises outstanding initiatives that promote and support the employment of people with disabilities. The Shire’s Property Care Team was chosen for their dedication to providing meaningful and valuable work opportunities for individuals with disabilities within the community.
The team, comprised of individuals with disabilities, impressed the judges with their commitment to providing high-quality landscaping and garden maintenance services while promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities. Their dedication and hard work earned them the prestigious award and a $500 Woolworths gift card.
The Property Care Team have decided to pay it forward. They unanimously agreed to donate the entire gift card to the Manjimup Education Support Centre, where several team members attended during their schooling.
"We feel grateful for the support we received at the Education Support Centre," said Damian Taylor, a Property Care Team member. "Donating the prize money felt like the perfect way to give back and help future students who might face similar challenges."
The Manjimup Education Support Centre provides specialised learning programs and support services for students with disabilities. The centre was thrilled to receive the unexpected donation with Principal, Ross Davidson saying “Manjimup ESC is absolutely thrilled and deeply touched by the generous donation. It's truly heartwarming to see past students acknowledging the sense of community fostered at our school and wanting to give back. We've been actively investing resources into enhancing our Work Experience program, and this donation will significantly contribute to providing additional rewards for our students' hard work. We extend our immense gratitude to the Property Care Team for their support”.
Shire President Donelle Buegge is proud of the team’s achievements, “The Property Care Team's story is a shining example of community spirit and inclusivity. Their success and generosity serve as an inspiration to all, demonstrating the power of collaboration and giving back”.
“We strongly encourage other businesses and organisations to consider employing people with disabilities. By providing inclusive workplaces, we can create a more diverse, equitable, and vibrant community for everyone.
