Walking

Take a stroll through the beautiful nature reserves or a world class walking trail. Bushwalking is a fantastic way to explore the best that nature has to offer. Trails range from short and easy walks in town (including many that can be accessed by people with disabilities) right through to steep climbs on rocky hills. Bush walking or hiking is an all year round activity. In July/August the rivers and waterfalls are at their peak. In spring the wildflowers bring colour and excitement to the undergrowth. Wildlife can be observed all year around.

The sites below are in addition to the many bushwalks within State Forest. Check out Parks and Wildlife for spectacular climbs such as Mt Chudalup and Gloucester Tree and walking loops around some of the Shire's fabulous coastline and waterways.

Allambie Park - Manjimup

Manjimup's Allambie Park is maintained as parkland with large trees and low undergrowth and is a Class A Reserve, set aside for the protection of flora. Class A Reserves have restrictions on development and clearing.

Whether it is a leisurely stroll or a jog, this area is a great way to connect with nature, within the town site. All of Allambie Park is a designated dog exercise area where you can let your dog off the lead, provided you abide by the guidelines.

Bibbulmun Track - Manjimup, Northcliffe, Pemberton, Walpole

The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1000 km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast, and winding through the heart of the Shire of Manjimup. The Bibbulmun is for walkers only and is marked out by yellow triangular markers symbolising the Waugal, an important spirit in Aboriginal Noongar culture.

The Bibbulmun was first opened in 1979, 7 years after Mr Geoff Schafer first envisaged a Perth to Albany walk track. The track has undergone several 'renovations' since then and the whole 965 km from Kalamunda to Albany was unveiled in 1998. For more information, visit the Bibbulmun Track Foundation.

Deanmill Tramway - Manjimup

This is a 12km return trip from Manjimup along the former Manjimup - Deanmill Tramway. The dual use track forms part of the Munda Biddi Trail, the mountain biking equivalent to the Bibbulmun Track.

Mottram Street Reserve - Manjimup

This reserve of 16.5ha is located in Manjimup bounded by Mottram Street, Young and O'Connor Streets. This is a regrowth area and is subject to ongoing weed and drainage management. Informal walking tracks cross the reserve.

Northcliffe Forest Park - Northcliffe

This delightful forest park is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the beauty of a karri forest. Access is less than twenty metres from the main street in Northcliffe, behind the co-location building hosting the Northcliffe Visitor Centre, Northcliffe Library, Community Resource Centre and Painted Tree Gallery. There are marked walk tracks to explore with barbecue and picnic sites for a lunch spot or rest. The Gardner River flows through the Forest Park, adding to the mystique of the forest.

Pemberton Forest Park & Pool - Pemberton

The Pemberton Forest Park, an area of approximately 120 hectares, is located immediately west of the Pemberton Township. Located within the Forest Park is one of Western Australia's most picturesque freshwater swimming pools, the Pemberton Swimming Pool. The pool has entered the State Register of Heritage Places. Formed by damming a natural watercourse within a forest setting, the pool has been used by locals and tourists going back to the 1930s.

Walpole Horseyard Hill Trail - Walpole

This 2km loop walk departs from the Walpole Visitor Centre. It is a leisurely walk through the forest with interpretive features illustrated by two local artists. Walpole's Pioneer Park is adjacent to this trail with picnic and toilet facilities.
