Environmental Vandalism - Walpole
The Shire has been made aware of the ringbarking of a large Karri tree on North Walpole Road, Walpole. The Shire has notified the Police and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, and are making enquiries into the vandalism which appears to have occurred over the weekend of 28 and 29 July 2018.
The Shire is committed to maintaining a sustainable environment and during infrastructure works of any kind only removes vegetation, including trees, that poses a risk to road safety.
Shire President Paul Omodei is disappointed with the situation "It is extremely disappointing to see any sort of vandalism occurring within the Shire, however this act, whilst dangerous in itself, has now created a dangerous situation for users on an already problematic road".
"Irresponsible actions such as this also jeopardise current and future vegetation clearing permits and road grant funding within the Shire and set back the relationship between the Shire and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation" he added.
Guilty parties will be dealt with according to the law and any information should be provided to the police or the Shire of Manjimup.
