Home-based business approvals
Non-food businesses
If you wish to operate a small-scale business from home, you may be required to submit a development application. This type of business is known as either a home office, home occupation or home business and does not include food or accommodation businesses. The conduct of these uses is controlled by the Shire's Local Planning Scheme No. 4.
If your proposed venture is classed (by the Shire) as a home office or occupation you will not require planning approval.
In all other cases, you will require planning approval via the development application form. In your application, you will need to include:
- site plan;
- floor plan; and
- letter of justification for the proposed business (business operation plan).
For more information regarding home occupation/office/business please refer to our fact sheet.
Food businesses
The Shire of Manjimup is supportive of any enterprise that promotes the Shire's importance as a premium food grower and supplier. If you wish to undertake a home-based food business such as jam and preserves manufacturing, honey production or meat, vegetable and fruit repackaging, we will assist you to obtain the relevant approvals. Home-based food businesses are classed as either a home occupation, home business or a rural home business.
The ability to operate such a business from your home depends on the class of business, as determined by the Shire, and your property's zoning. For more information please refer to our fact sheet.
If your proposed venture is classed (by the Shire) as a home occupation you will not require planning approval.
